The rain pours down on a Saturday afternoon outside the Joburg offices of the Nativz Music record label. One thing that South African Hip-Hoppers definitely have in common with their American counterparts is their punctuality (or lack thereof!) The wait is ended with the arrival of Mr.Soul (the man behind Nativz) and the HHH crew are soon seated around a big boardroom table listening to a mix of Mos Def, Amu and Skwad-da-kamp tracks while politicking with Jozi MC, Amu. Posters of Public Enemy and a signed Run-DMC shirt overlook the interview, and Amu breaks down his thoughts on the state of the local Hip-Hop scene in his distinctive gritty voice. While you check out the interview on the following pages, why don't you also listen to Amu in action on the M.I.C in the form of two of his latest tracks - 'Phezulu (elevate)' and 'SYFO (Stick Your Finger Out)'?
